NAIOP Developing Leaders Educational Efforts
The NAIOP Developing Leaders (NDL) educational subcommittee carries out the planning and implementation of educational events, including the NAIOP Central Florida real estate case study competition known as “The REAL Bowl” and the five part educational series known as “Development 101”. The educational subcommittee partners with all members and committees within NAIOP to help create interesting and informative events that add value to all involved.
Development 101 is FREE to all NAIOP members, with individuals of all experience levels attending the events. For non-NAIOP members, there is a nominal fee to attend Development 101. Student members experience the highest cost benefit based on their recently reduced annual NAIOP Student membership fee of $19. The student membership initiative started with an overwhelming number of inquiries by graduate and undergraduate students last year. The inquiries were derived from the strong partnership NAIOP Central Florida has with the University of Central Florida (UCF) and other institutions of higher learning.
The relationship between higher education and NAIOP Central Florida has been around for quite some time. Through financial partnerships provided to UCF to aide in funding the Dr. Phillips School of Real Estate, NAIOP has cemented itself as an industry standard for educational advocacy and has raised over $600,000 for the UCF School of Real Estate. Participants of last year’s case study competition received the opportunity to attend Development 101 at no cost and the winning team was awarded $2000 cash.
Our educational partnerships continue to flourish with The REAL Bowl swiftly becoming a venue for local and state universities to compete academically against one another at the undergraduate and graduate levels. The inaugural case competition hosted by NDL in the spring of 2009 was a very successful event. Many of the participants have developed strong relationships within the Central Florida real estate industry and over half of the participants have obtained real estate positions with local companies either as interns or full time associates. The REAL Bowl will be held every year during the Spring semester, with this year’s event being hosted by NDL at the Ritz Carlton Orlando, Thursday, April 15th 2010; for more information please visit the calendar of events page on www.naiopcfl.org
As noted, NDL’s educational committee stays busy year round planning and implementing events that add value for all members of NAIOP. We urge everyone who would like to get more involved in this exciting group of young professionals to join the NDL’s Educational Committee. For more information, please contact Will Lenihan at wlenihan@rlhaines.com or Erik Lembcke at erik.lembcke@gmail.com.
